PIQUET PHRASES:

Piquet was always spontaneous and made fun of everyone. His quotes are the funniest in F1, but there are many things we can't take seriously, especially about his rival Ayrton Senna. Here are his best quotes:

“To whom do you dedicate this championship? I dedicate it to myself, I won it, who will I dedicate it to?!”

“What changes in your life the world championship? Absolutely nothing changes... you wake up the next day hungry, have a stomach ache, fart...”

"If I had as many children as people say, I would certainly not be a pilot, but a porn actor."  About his many offspring with different women.

“I speak my mind, and I regret it later. If I were to think too much, I would become Emerson (Fittipaldi) who only speaks well of everyone."

“Radio Box is a virtual radio station, via word-of-mouth, in which I actively participated. I explain better radio-box is pure gossip, speculation, invention and works thanks to everyone's need to pass on news, plus their personal contribution. You know how it is: whoever tells a story gets a point. We start by inventing such impossible news. The more impossible the better. Then you tell this barbarity to the first one who passes by, preferably someone who doesn't have much contact. Then just keep an eye on the clock to see how long it will take for someone to come back and tell the same story.I invented several stories that, being so famous, are considered to this day as unspeakable truths.

(Column Foot Under the State of São Paulo on Radio Box on March 11, 1996) - O Heroi Revelado pg 192

“I would go on talking for two hours, inventing the greatest adventures and making Dona Clotilde (my mother) happy. The important thing was that the story seemed perfectly true and possible because, after all, it wasn't a lying contest, but a simple report of “cases”. Thanks to that ludic-literary incentive I had at home, I got better and better at it, so much so that I became one of the greatest writers at Rádio Box, which I will talk about here.Inventing hit stories and being a viewer watching those same stories told, retold and reconfirmed, even directly to you, is really hilarious. It's just not better than when you reveal that it's all made up and assume responsibility”.

(pg 23 Book I REMEMBER Nelson Piquet VERY WELL)

“Being a pilot isn’t just about driving. You have to work, know the car and recognize the value of mechanics. Being a good driver means working hard, sacrificing too much, all with a fixed idea: being a driver." (Auto Esporte Magazine June 1976 pg 95)

" Piquet sees F1 today very differently. In his time, understanding mechanics helped a lot. He did two and a half years of engineering himself, but he says that he really learned on the job, accompanying Gordon Murray even in lengthy sessions in a wind tunnel. Recently, he spoke with many people of his time and heard the unanimous opinion that the championship is no longer for drivers, but for technology”.

(AUTOMOTOR Yearbook 2013 page 29)

About Mansell:

“There are 3 differences between me and Mansell, first he likes golf, I like tennis... Second he likes ugly women, I like beautiful women... Third, he lost 3 titles and I won 3”.

"Mansell is the biggest idiot I've ever seen."

"Mansell is an asshole."

"Mansell has the 2 ugliest women in Formula 1" Piquet talking about Mansell's women. One was his wife, and the other was the statue of his wife that Mansell had had made and placed in the back garden.

"Mansell said he had dysentery and kept running to the bathroom. Only he had nothing, it was pure pretense. I think I was already preparing the excuse for an eventual defeat. So, just for fun, I went over there and stole the toilet paper. When he saw that there was no toilet paper, then he roared like a lion!"
(GP Mexico 1987)

“Old Nigel in qualifying, under pressure, spun and took the opportunity to say that he couldn't continue in the race. I became world champion.” (Anuário Francisco Santos 97 pg 29)

"When I discovered something good for my car, I only said it at the last minute. That way, Mansell couldn't take advantage of it."

"I almost had an orgasm." (After the GP Canada/91, when Mansell stalled the car on the last lap)

“If that idiot Mansell doesn't do anything stupid, he can easily win the 1991 championship.” (After the GP England/91)

“Mansell, guys, has only one thing: he's a fast driver; now, he's not able to hit a car, he's lost three world championships that he could have won if he was a little bit smarter, you know? And he really made, as they say, famous, because I hit Imola, because I spent the whole year limping, walking behind him. Because last year I always walked faster than him, even though I had a really bad year. But I always walked faster than him. A year later, I was always slower than him because of that bump I took at Imola. And by the end of the year I was improving and managed to win the championship”.

(Interview with Roda Vida on 5/2/94)

About Senna:

"Ask Senna why he doesn't like women". (Early 1988)

"His thing is big boys. I've never seen him with a woman."

"Senna's marriage to Lilian Vasconcellos has been annulled".

OBS: Lilian Vasconcellos denied the annulment of the marriage and denied that Senna was gay: "There was no annulment. We just separated. That was it. I have all the documents, I don't owe anything to anyone....”

“From chasing Senna's Lotus so much I know what to do to make it a world champion car, that car lacks a driver”. (1987)

“If I win the championship this year, still at Williams, Senna will have a heart attack. If I win next year with Lotus, he will commit suicide”. (1987)

"The truth is that Senna couldn't get the Lotus right. He goes to McLaren so that Prost can get the car right for him.."  (Jornal O Globo 09/13/1987 pg 45)

“In 1986 Senna said the car was fantastic, but the engine was disastrous. In 1987 he said the engine was fantastic, but the car was bad. ." (Jornal o Globo 12/12/1987 page 27)

"Senna and I are like husband and wife who don't speak to each other anymore". (Piquet at 1988)

"If it keeps up like this, I'm capable of finishing 3rd for the entire year." (Newspaper O Globo 02/05/1988 page 9)

"My mistake was not taking a reasonable amount of time to observe Lotus before signing the contract." (nineteen ninety)

NOTE: After he sat in the Lotus 88, he saw that the car was very bad, he realized what Senna was going through with that car and recognized that he made a mistake.

“Ayrton never knew how to set up a car, he always wanted to go for the winning car”.

OBS:  Piquet created this urban legend that Senna was not a hitter, but several engineers and technicians from various teams from F3 to F1 say exactly the opposite.

“I need to see the times to convince myself. When Patrese approached, he managed to do a lap in 1m23s. It's waterfall, you can't turn in less than 1m28s only with 6th gear. He “blacked out” physically and had no more strength.” (After the GP Brasil/91, about Senna having won with 6th gear)

"Senna, of course! Me and Prost have already won everything and we're at the end of our careers. That's what Mansell knows: if you have an engine that's a little more delicate in your hands, goodbye, because it's going to break it anyway. Ayrton, no. He's young, has a lot of talent and a huge desire to win a world title. He would be my pilot. He'll kill himself to be the best of all time." When asked who his driver would be if he had a team.

“Ayrton is one of the most talented drivers there is, you have to wait his turn, you have to wait for his chance, because to win you have to be the right guy, in the right team, at the right time.”

(Nelson Piquet and his incredible stories, part 2, recorded in 1987 - minute 4 onwards)

"Is Senna the best driver? Fuck no! Prost is better, who is a four-time champion" Asked if he admitted that Senna was the best driver in F1 and again stamping his foot against his foe. (1993)

"I guarantee that the loss of Senna hit me in a way that I couldn't even imagine at the time. He was a tough opponent and gave me the chance, along with Alain Prost and Nigel Mansell, to enjoy unforgettable moments. they demanded gigantic doses of soul, heart and together, a pleasure that lasted forever. I owe them great moments and I'll say more.If he were still with us, Michael Schumacher's revered skill would be valued even more. Certainly, the German would not have the slightest soft spot”.

(Transcribed from Piquet's interview with Marcus Zamponi- Ayrton Senna Saudade What was missing to know pg 152 and 153)

"Senna is the greatest natural talent I've seen in F1."

(Piquet in an interview with Reginaldo Leme on the Linha de Arrival Program)

“Senna was very good, without a doubt. Difficult to compare my career with him, he won three championships, many races, but with the same car, the same engine, the same tyre. He didn't have the chance I had to develop a car, develop a tire to win a championship... It's two different eras.”

(Piquet in the New Uncensored, June 2021)

About Prost:

"Alain Prost teacher? If Prost was the guy who screwed up the most in F1".

“This guy ended the marriage of 3 pilots who were friends with him: Didier Pironi, Gerard Larrousse and Jacques Laffite. A guy who goes to his friend's house, doesn't leave there and then fucks his friend's wife! Seriously, it's the only way to get anything because he's SO UGLY!!!"

NOTE: There is a bit of exaggeration in this sentence, but it is true that Prost sang about his friends' wives.

"For me he is running from the dick". "Prost fled the fray." When referring to Prost leaving McLaren in 1989 to go to Ferrari, fleeing the confrontation with Senna.

About Alan Jones:

“Jones is a beast and he was desperate because Carlos Reutemann was walking in front of him. He was never an exceptional driver and he was champion because he was lucky to get a well-tuned car and a good designer.” (The Path of a Grand Champion pg 87)

About Rubens Barrichello:

"Rubinho, despite having won some races, is an ordinary driver and he got a tough nut to crack, which is Schumacher. That is his biggest problem. Rubinho is not disabled because of Ferrari. He is disabled because Schumacher is better than him", opined Piquet, Barrichello's critic for years.

About Nelsinho (Nelson Piquet Jr):

“My son is 10 times better than me”.

“What do my son and I have in common? THE LIE".(Interview with Fantástico, 2004 for Glória Maria)

“I think Nelsinho will bring more problems to Alonso than the Spaniard had with Hamilton. Nelsinho will not be anyone's second driver. I know that there will be no privileges at Renault, so his only obligation is to walk in front of Alonso”.

About Schumacher:

"I think Schumacher will finish off Benetton's chassis stock." (After Schumacher destroyed the car in the practice of GP Japan/91)

“Every ten years there are two or three good drivers to dominate F1, but in the last 10 years (90s) it would be Schumacher or Senna”.

(Documentary Age of Champions)

“Value must be given to him (Schumacher), who took Ferrari for twenty years without winning, had the ability to bring together the right engineers and the team became unbeatable. But certainly, if he had raced in our time, he wouldn’t have won so much.” (Nelson Piquet AUTOMOTOR Yearbook 2013 pg 29)

"Schumacher's biggest opponent is gone on 1/5/1994".

About Lauda:

Piquet usually refers to Lauda in terms that are always complimentary and kind, whom he considers a friend and main teacher in the category:

"When I got to F1, I didn't know how to transmit information about the car to the engineer. I spent the first six or seven tests following the team's work. Every time Lauda stopped in the pits, I approached him to find out how he was doing. passed on information about the car. Lauda is very good at that”.

(Book F1 Green Light page 138 and The Trajectory of a Great Champion – Piquet page 53)

About Patrick Head:

“Nelson Piquet: Look, I worked with Patrick Head and I really enjoyed working with him. He's an engineer who wants to win, he's not shy about copying things, he's very practical. I can say it's fair, because they really tried not to let me win the championship. But up to a certain point. They could very well start the last few races without two gears in the gearbox, say, if that was the case, if they really wanted to stop me in the world championship. Because of everything that happened there, at the end of the year, in 1987, I even regretted having signed a contract with Lotus. I even wanted to go back to stay there, because, from the middle of the year, I had a very good relationship with him and I thought they were going to do a lot of mess with me. You imagine! As of the Hungarian championship, I had already signed with Lotus, so I was going to leave. If I left, they had the possibility of losing the Honda engine, which they lost. So, a lot... And they treated me on equal terms. They wouldn't let me develop the active suspension and win the Monza race with my foot on my back - because the suspension was fantastic - but they... took the suspension off,but really they didn't stop me from winning the world cup. So I have nothing to say against Patrick. I like him".

(About Williams in 1987, interview with Roda Viva on 5/2/94)

NOTE: This speech shows that Piquet did not hold a grudge against Patrick Head.

About James Hunt:

"James Hunt loved a tree frog."

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNc0JovVCm8&t=1772s (Video Channel On the Tracks, at 22 minutes tells the story of tire heating)

Another subjects:

"I just think we need a pretty big revolution in F1. It's time for a change, because there's a driver shortage, and apart from the Schumacher/Hakkinen pair, the rest are so disoriented that it won't be funny anymore." (Racing Magazine October 2000 pg 50)

NOTE: It's a good thing that the following year Montoya, Kimi and Alonso appeared.

"Ferrari cars are coffins on wheels." (1982)

“At Lotus it will be different. I asked loudly and they agreed. With the right people in the right places it will be as competitive as Williams is today." (Piquet after the announcement of his signing by the Lotus team in 1987)

"You don't learn anything at IndyCar. It's retirement. It's the wrong choice for someone just starting out. In Europe it's more difficult, but that's where you learn." Alerting Brazilian pilots who want to head towards Indy.

"A race is not won on the first lap, but it is lost." Warning to newbies.

“Being fast is one thing, but having the technical and tactical ability to face the challenge of fighting for the title over the course of a season is quite another”. (1987)

“Technically they were the best team (Williams) I worked with, but I didn't go there to apply my experience tuning cars for another colleague to make it difficult for me to win”. (1987)

"Commander Enzo Ferrari is stuttering. Fiat is just waiting for him to hit the ground running, so he can join the team with everything." (Playboy Magazine Interview)

"The Indy is a toy for old retirees like me." Asked the difference between Formula-1 and Formula Indy.

"If you have it, I'll eat it!!!" Asked if there were any queers in Formula 1 among the pilots.

"Senna takes too many risks; Prost is too fresh; Rosberg is too confused; and Arnoux is a jerk."

Piquet complaining about Formula Indy: "The guy runs, it's a yellow flag.... Birdie shit on the track, it's a yellow flag...."

"Is the ** itchy?"
Suzuka 87, signing an autograph for Japanese female fans, which is obvious, responded with a smile

"Coming from me, none!"
Responding to a reporter on whether he had any advice for young Brazilian talent.

News reporter:
- What's up Piquet. How will the race be tomorrow?
piquet:
- I don't know, I'm not a fortune teller!
