RACING PERFORMANCE FOR TEAM MATES UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS

A very important analysis to measure a driver's genius is knowing how many times he came in behind his teammate in "normal conditions", but not counting Sprint Races.

NORMAL RACING CONDITIONS ARE THOSE NOT ARISING FROM:

  • Abandonment or problem with the car (dry breakdown, engine, gearbox, tire, loss of performance, replacement or repair of a spoiler or car part, etc.),

  • Long pit stop, team order, start from the pit lane,

  • Punishment of any type (disqualification, drive through, stop and go, time or grid punishment, etc.).

1) FANGIO (was defeated only once): (2%)

Moss (1): Ing/55.

OBS 1: Some sources say that Fangio let Moss win in England 1955, but there is no evidence.

NOTE 2: He benefited from the regulation that allowed him to take his teammate's car.

2) CLARK (has been defeatedThree times): (4%)

Surtees (1): Ing/60.

Ireland (2): England/60, USA/61.

NOTE 1: I did not count Moss: Mon/61, Bel/61, Ale/61, because in 1960/61 Clark raced a Lotus 18/Lotus 21 car for Colin Chapman's team, while Moss raced a Lotus 18 with rear suspension new from Rob Walker's team. In the GP Monaco/64 Clark had problems with the stabilizer bar and oil pressure, and in the Mexico/64 GP he broke the engine on the last lap.

OBS 2: In 1962 Clark demanded Ireland's departure from the team because he fought with him. Ireland defeated Clark twice.

5) MOSS (has been defeated5 times):(7%)

Brown: Ita/53

Fangio (4): Bel/54, Arg/55, Bel/55, Hol/55.

NOTE 1: In Fra/56, he broke down and took his teammate's car, so he arrived behind Behra.

Arg/60 broke the car and took the teammate. Hol/60 had a problem with the tyres. In 1961 Moss (Rob Walker) and Clark (Collin Chapman) were using Lotus from different teams.

NOTE 2: He benefited from the regulation that allowed him to take his teammate's car.

Mass (1): Sue/77

Lunger (1): Sue/77

Mass (2): Fra/75 and Aut/75

NOTE: In 1970 Fittipaldi used the Lotus 53C, while other drivers used the Lotus 72, so I disregarded Rindt and Milles. In Argentina 74, Fittipaldi accidentally turned the car off and lost the race for it. At Brasil 76, Emerson changed the ignition box during the race.

In Belgium/78 and Italy/78 Andretti started to race with a Lotus more evolved than Peterson's, and in Holland/78 Peterson received orders not to pass Andretti, so I didn't consider it.

NOTE: Chi/19 gave orders for him to let Vettel pass, Cin/19 he led part of the race, they made racing tactics for Vettel to get ahead of him from the pit stop and win the race. At Mex/19, Leclerc made a long pit stop (6s), Bel/20 left Leclerc without a tire in the pit stop took 10s. In Styria/21 Leclerc lost his beak on the 1st lap. I didn't count Singapore 2023, as Leclerc had a chance of getting ahead of Sainz, but Ferrari made a pit stop of 5.7s and ended his chances.
